Qamarun Sidna n-Nabī (قمر سيدنا النبي) is a beloved Arabic poem that praises the beauty of the Prophet ﷺ. Its chorus features the well-known motif likening his radiance to that of the full moon, while the verses recount miracles attributed to his blessed hands, the fragrance of his perspiration, and the healing power of his saliva. Though the poem’s original authorship remains unknown, it has long been recited in spiritual gatherings across Egypt and Syria. Its popularity spread internationally through renditions by Syrian children’s lyricist Tarek Alarabi Tourgane and Egyptian singer Mostafa Atef. Today, “Qamarun” is among the most widely recognized devotional songs in the Muslim world. The poem is sometimes prefaced with the couplet Wa Aḥsanu Minka Lam Tara—originally composed by the Companion Ḥassān ibn Thābit—which is included in the lyrics below. There are various versions of the lyrics (as seen in the audio samples below). Featured here is one popular rendition; verses 1 and 2 are especially well-known.
✴️ Note: This hymn contains istighātha (verse 5).
Lyrics
– (prelude) –
Wa ajmalu minka lam tara qaṭṭu ‘aynin
wa aṭyabu minka lam talidin–nisaa’u
Khuliqta mubarra’an min kulli ‘aybin
ka-annaka qad khuliqta kamaa tashaa’u
No eye has seen such beauty as thine,
no dame has borne such a one so fine.
You were created free of flaw,
as if by your own design.
– chorus –
Qamarun (x3) sidnan–nabee qamarun!
Wa jameel (x3) sidnan–nabee wa jameel!
A moon! Our master the Prophet is like a moon!
Beautiful! How beautiful our master the Prophet is!
– verse 1 –
Wa kafful–Muṣtafaa kal–wardi naadee
wa ‘iṭruhaa yabqaa idhaa massat ayaadee
Wa ‘amma nawaaluhaa kullal–‘ibaadi
ḥabeebuLlaahi yaa khayral–baraayaa
The Chosen One’s palm is like a fresh rose,
its scent remains long after a brush of his hand.
All of humanity was touched by its grace.
Beloved of God – O best of creation!
