Yā Ṭālib al-Fanā fi Llāh (يا طالب الفنا في الله), “O Seeker of Effacement in Allah”, is a poem from the Dīwān of the great 20th–century Shādhilī saint and spiritual guide Sīdī Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥabīb of Meknes, Morocco. It encourages the one who seeks to annihilate their ego to completely absorb themselves in the remembrance of God and repeatedly invoke the Divine Name: “Allāh Allāh”.

Lyrics

– verse 1 –

يَا طَالِبَ الْفَنَا فِي اللهْ
قُلْ دَائِمًا اَللهْ اَللهْ

Yaa ṭaalibal–fanā fillaah
qul daa’iman Allaah Allaah

O seeker of effacement in God,
say constantly, “Allah, Allah!”

– verse 2 –

وَغِبْ فِيهِ عَنْ سِوَاهُ
وَاشْهَدْ بِقَلْبِكَ اَللهْ

Wa ghib feehi ‘an siwaahu
wash·had bi-qalbika Allaah

Lose yourself in Him, away from all else,
and testify/witness with your heart: Allah!
